Like Kamali's Sleeping Bag Coat, the Diana Gown is a house staple—one the designer first created in the 1970s and has only minutely adjusted in the years since. The latest version of the dress, the same Carrie Bradshaw will wear on-screen in December, is available for pre-order at Revolve. I hadn’t done a good Sex and the City binge in quite some time so on a recent Sunday, when I had way too much closet organizing to do, I put it on and fell in love all over again.
"The first time I did it in the 70s, I was just thinking classic styling, sort of Greco-Roman feel to it," Kamali explains. "It didn’t have a bodysuit in it at the time. It was just really simple—sort of like a sheath." I can’t remember where it’s from but I got it after the first SATC movie came out. For this look, I wore a white tank dress with my Katie necklace and a modern chunk blush heel. Carrie’s dress was a little slinkier, but again, I had to keep it more office appropriate.
FASHION ROAD KILL
I don’t know if And Just Like That will renew for a second season, and frankly, I’m not sure I want it to. Let’s nix that last scene like I suggested and leave Carrie in Paris, decked out in a gorgeous gown, eager to meet up with Samantha for a long-awaited cocktail. For many SATC fans, this uber-romantic frock, which Carrie wears to her reconciliation lunch with Big, was the style high point of the entire show. While out on a Season 4 friend-date with Carrie, Big lamented, “People don’t dress up anymore.” But Carrie sure did in this scene, glamming it up in a throwback strapless evening dress. Sometimes Carrie's clothes felt more like costumes, like when she tried to dress the part of down-home girlfriend while spending time at Aidan's rural cabin. Is Carrie trying to seduce Russian lover Aleksandr by dressing up as Anna Karenina here?
When Parker recently stepped out in-character rocking a Dries Van Noten floral blazer, her feathered cap also called back to the giant feather headpiece Carrie wore while marrying Big in the 2008 movie. All these styling choices—from costume designer Molly Rogers—are a clever way to make the character feel authentic and real, because who doesn’t hold on to closet favorites? And the best part is, these are just a few of the fashion revivals we’ve seen in the new show—filming has only just begun!
Sarah Jessica Parker Channeled Carrie Bradshaw at the Hocus Pocus 2 Premiere
That night in the Hampton's when Carrie see's big with Natasha for the first time. None of us will ever forget the day that Heidi Klum walked over a fallen Carrie Bradshaw on the catwalk. In what was possibly the most emotional moment between the girls, Carrie rushes through the streets of NYC in her signature fur to accompany Miranda on New Years Eve. Playing with proportions, Carrie wears a patchwork stripe midi skirt, button-up top, and oversized trench, accessorized with heeled mules and a brimmed hat. Going for early-aughts glam, Carrie slipped into a one-shoulder ruched midi dress and oversized blazer on top.
Version includes a white tulle skirt that skims the floor, topped with a striped tee and finished with white ankle boots. The world is abuzz about HBO Max’s And Just Like That… AKA the Sex and the City reboot. Pictures from the set of the reboot are taking fans back nearly 20 years, to a time when Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte, and Samantha regularly graced their television screens. When Carrie Bradshaw rocked a statement white and gold flower dress as she strolled down Fifth Avenue in Sex And The City, she certainly turned heads. On the first re-design in the eighties, Kamali added a bodysuit inspired by her swimwear—a clever touch allowing the outer fabric would drape just so. The dress went on a brief hiatus in the mid-2000s before returning again around five years ago.
YOUR GIRL IS LOVELY HUBBLE
The star of the show, however, was her Gucci X Balenciaga bag from The Hacker Project. For an evening event, Carrie chooses a pencil-silhouette white dress with black trim, finishing it off with a pop of color, via pink satin heels with a tulle bow. It's not the first time the journalist has taken to social media for a good cause. Earlier this year, she shared a candid snap to Instagram, revealing she had a skin cancer cut out of her back. Posting to her Instagram on Saturday night, the 45-year-old shared a snap of her looking gorgeous in the bold, white designer dress.
"Sometimes you see clothes that you do on famous people and you think, 'Well….okay. It’s great that they chose it or they’re wearing it,'" Kamali offers for comparison. "But this was a situation where I really felt that my expectation of Sex and the City and this version would be a comment on aging with power, and that picture for me was really great to see." Carrie Bradshaw's styling (unbuttoned cream blazer, sequin-embellished sandal heels) is also consistent with how Kamali says women have always worn the Diana, save a few decade-specific flourishes.

Over Sex And The City's six seasons, and two feature film run Carrie Bradshaw made several items in her closet world famous. Her fur coat, tutu, heels, and bold accessories became a staple to her style and ultimately defined an era. Additionally, many of Carrie's outfits marked a moment in time.
The legendary lead’s one-of-a-kind style started trends that are still influencing our wardrobes today. Her unmistakable flair for style means she remains a Who What Wear muse to this day. Mention that fur coat or that tutu dress, and fashion fans’ ears prick up. Carrie never looked better when she wore this stunning grey Versace ball gown, with sheer cap sleeves and lots of chiffon and tulle. She wore this statement-making dress when she was waiting for Aleksandr to take her out on her first night in Paris.
